Madrid football weekend: the Bernabéu and the Metropolitano

Madrid has two of Europe’s best-known clubs. Real Madrid play at the Santiago Bernabéu on the Paseo de la Castellana, in the Chamartín district, and Atlético Madrid at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in the east of the city. Both stadiums have their own Metro stations.

Getting to Madrid from our 10 markets

Non-stop routes as listed on Wikipedia’s airport pages (Madrid-Barajas) on 18 October 2026; seasonal-only routes are left out. Routes and schedules change, so check with the airline before you book.

Metro line 8 runs from Madrid-Barajas Airport to Nuevos Ministerios, a short ride from the Bernabéu, and Cercanías trains also serve the airport.

Getting to the grounds

Santiago Bernabéu: The stadium has its own Metro station, Santiago Bernabéu, on Line 10, right on the Paseo de la Castellana. Madrid-Barajas Airport is north-east of the city; Metro line 8 links it to Nuevos Ministerios, a short ride from the stadium.

Riyadh Air Metropolitano: Estadio Metropolitano station on Metro Line 7 is beside the ground, and Las Rosas (Line 2), Canillejas (Line 5) and Las Musas (Line 7) are all within about 20 minutes on foot. Madrid-Barajas Airport is on the same eastern side of the city as the stadium.
