About Newcastle United
Newcastle United trace their roots to Stanley F.C., founded in Byker in 1881, which became Newcastle East End. The club took its present name in 1892 after taking over the assets of local rivals Newcastle West End, including St James' Park, where United have played ever since. The ground sits in the centre of the city and has a capacity of 52,769.
Newcastle have won four league titles, six FA Cups, the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and, in 2025, the EFL Cup, the club's first major trophy in nearly 56 years. Most of the league titles came in the club's golden era between 1904 and 1910. United have been in the Premier League for all but three seasons of its history and have never dropped below the second tier since joining the Football League in 1893. The traditional kit is black-and-white stripes, and the great local rivalry is the Tyne–Wear derby with Sunderland.
The club has twice bounced straight back after relegation: down in 2009 and again in 2016, they returned as Championship winners in 2010 and 2017. The crest borrows from the city's coat of arms, including its two grey hippocamps, and before every home game the team walks out at St James' Park to "Going Home". Newcastle supporters travelling from abroad will find the club's 2026/27 away list below.
